Big Bend Ultra 2013 Registration Opens

Runners get set.

Get ready.

GO online and sign up for the January 20th running of the Big Bend Ultra Run.

Last year’s runners get a head start. They can begin registering May 1st.

Open registration begins June 1st.

Registration fee for the 50K and 25K is $125 and the 10K is $100. Fees are not refundable or transferable.

Planning for 2013 already is underway

On the Monday night after the race, planning already begins for some new and exciting changes for Big Bend Ultra Run 2013. The first planning meeting for the next race was held at a private lodge near the Haricots Verts Expeditions HQ in an undisclosed location.

As you can see from the picture above, planning for 2013 already is underway. We want your input. Please go to our Comments & Suggestions Page and fill out the form there. Your answers will be private and will be a great benefit as we plan for next year. You may answer any or all of the five questions.

The answer to your first question is that we have not yet set a date for registration to open for the 2013 Big Bend Ultra Run. When we do, we will announce it here, as well as Facebook and Twitter. Plus, we’ll send out a newsletter to all that are signed up. Not signed up? Go here to sign up for our newsletter.

Today’s safety meeting prior to the 2012 Big Bend Ultra Run centered on hydration for all concerned – runners, volunteers and even guests and friends.

It is dry. This is a desert. Humidity is very low. Stay hydrated and stay healthy.

We also reviewed the many resources available to us through the National Park Service, Border Patrol, Webb County, amateur radio operators and volunteers.

If you are injured seriously, we will get you to expert medical care as soon as possible by land or air, depending on the urgency.

We don’t expect any problems. We’ve never had a serious injury in the four races in the past.

However, we want to be prepared and we want you to know we’ve got your back.

By the way, keep hydrated.

Pre-Race Meal and Briefing

Here’s the lowdown on the Saturday, pre-race dinner and briefing:
First, the menu:

Jambalaya with brown rice
Choice of spicy, mild and vegetarian (that’s the jambalaya – the rice comes only in one flavor)

Cost is $10 cash per person collected on site.

Serving line opens at 5:00 pm
Around 6:30 pm, there will be a final briefing with a Q&A session.

This meal is a fundraiser for the HAM radio operators who provide coordination and emergency communications on the course. They will be keeping track of runners and can call for help. You will find a HAM operator at each rest stop.
All of them are here on their own dime volunteering their services.
